The seller makes the goods available at its premises or another named place. The buyer handles loading, export clearance and all transport.

  • Make the goods available at the named place, packed and marked

  • Provide the commercial invoice

  • Assist the buyer with export information, at the buyer’s cost and risk

BUYER

  • Load the goods (unless agreed otherwise)

  • Complete export and import clearance

  • Arrange and pay for all carriage and insurance

  • Bear all risk from the moment the goods are made available

When to use it, and when not to

EXW is often unsuitable for international sales: the buyer may not be able to clear exports in the seller’s country. FCA at the seller’s premises is usually a better choice, with the seller loading and clearing for export.
