01

The challenge

The manufacturer had sold a complete filling and packaging line to a food producer near Rotterdam. The installation crew was booked for a fixed two-week window, and the customer’s site had space to receive only two containers a day.

Two of the machines were taller than the internal height of a 40′ high cube, and several control cabinets were sensitive to humidity and shock.

02

Constraints

  • Two units at 2.80 m high — above the internal height of a 40HC

  • Receiving limited to two containers per day

  • Asia–Europe sailings routed via the Cape of Good Hope, lengthening transit

  • Humidity-sensitive electrical cabinets

03

Operational plan

We split the line across six 40′ high cubes and two 40′ open tops for the over-height machines, which were loaded by crane with tarpaulin covers and lashing checked by a surveyor at origin.

All eight containers sailed on the same vessel so they would arrive together. Desiccants and shock indicators were fitted to the control cabinets, and our Rotterdam team held the containers at the terminal and released them two a day in installation order.

04

Key decisions

  • Open tops instead of flat racks, keeping the machines covered and on a container service

  • One vessel for all eight units, rather than splitting across cheaper sailings

  • Extended free time negotiated at Rotterdam to cover the staged release

  • Delivery order agreed with the installation crew before loading

05

Outcome

All eight containers were delivered in sequence and the line was installed within the planned window. There were no damage claims and no demurrage beyond the negotiated free time.
