01

The challenge

A chemicals producer in Texas needed to supply a new customer near São Paulo with a resin solution classified as a Class 3 flammable liquid. The customer wanted bulk supply in ISO tanks rather than drums, and the product needed an import licence in Brazil before shipment.

02

Constraints

  • DG acceptance from the ocean carrier and the terminals

  • Import licence required before the cargo left the US

  • Tank cleaning certificates at origin and return

  • Road transport of DG between Santos and the plant

03

Operational plan

Our Houston DG desk reviewed the SDS and tank specifications, prepared the IMDG declaration and obtained carrier acceptance before tanks were filled. The São Paulo office worked with the customer’s broker to secure the import licence in advance.

From Santos, tanks moved by licensed DG hauliers to the plant, and empty tanks were returned for cleaning under the lessor’s instructions.

04

Key decisions

  • ISO tanks rather than drums, to reduce handling and packaging waste

  • Carrier acceptance obtained before filling

  • Import licence confirmed before departure

  • Licensed DG hauliers booked for the Brazilian road leg

05

Outcome

Fourteen ISO tanks were delivered over two months with no DG rejections at the terminals. Door-to-door time averaged around 26 days.
